Leica M10-D DIY
The Leica M10-D fascinates me with its analog feel combined with digital photography. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find or too expensive. So, I searched for a simple DIY solution for my Leica M10.

Finding the Perfect Solution
After some trial and error, I discovered a solution that is not only effective but also easy to implement. I wanted to cover the display of the Leica M10 without damaging the camera. Several attempts with 3D printing were too complicated or impractical. So, I opted for a simpler approach.
A Simple DIY Approach: Camera Leather and a Plotter
My solution: I use a plotter to cut a display cover from special camera leather. But that’s not all. First, I stick the leather onto a screen protector, so it can be easily attached and removed. Then, I cut the leather cover to fit the display perfectly. This makes the Leica M10 look like a M10-D without damaging the display.
Choosing the Right Leather
Choosing the right leather was essential for me. It needed to be high quality, durable, and match the texture of the Leica. After a long search, I finally found the perfect leather at Japan Hobby Tool. Their camera leather is excellent, even though it's quite pricey. However, the quality is worth it. The leather fits the Leica M10 perfectly and blends seamlessly into the design.
Advantages of My DIY Solution
- Cost-effective: The Leica M10-D is expensive, while a DIY cover costs a fraction of the price.
- Customizable: You can choose and adjust the leather to your liking.
- Easy to handle: The cover is easy to apply and remove.
- No permanent modification: The display remains intact and can be reused anytime.
And yes, it feels just like the Leica M10-D, if not even a little better
I left a small window in the leather to show the battery level. I don't need any other information from the screen. It’s all about pure photography: manually setting ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, then just clicking. That’s all you need.
And yes, it feels just like the Leica M10-D. But I keep in mind: if I’m using the camera for a really important project where I can’t afford to miss a shot, I can always use the display again.
